Mining Camp and Community Safety Forum

Yukon Women in Mining in partnership with Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council is preparing for a powerful two-day Mining Camp and Community Safety Forum at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Center in Whitehorse on February 16th & 17th, 2026.

This essential gathering brings together First Nations, governments (both Territorial & Federal), regulators, communities, mining companies, and the service sector for an honest look at the current state of affairs across mining camps and the surrounding communities, from a safety lens. Universal participation from stakeholders is vital as we collaboratively conceptualize realistic support and meaningful change. We acknowledge that progress does not come from comfort and to truly inspire foundational change we will have courageous conversations with sensitive materials.

The forum will be a mix of presentations, speeches and working groups, facilitated by Two Worlds Consulting. Once we establish an honest and clear understanding of where we are at, we will examine regions, organizations and nations that are excelling in this space to identify where we can replicate and implement initiatives locally.

At the end of the two days, we will identify how every member of the mining community from a small placer mining family to a multinational organization, can take reasonable steps to move the needle in the right direction, no matter their capacity or the resources available to them.

A, "What we heard," report will be produced shortly after the forum, followed by the more elaborate guiding document with reasonable, tangible steps. We are very aware that issues faced around this topic are a microcosm of larger societal issues. We won't endeavour to change the world in two days but we will commit to leaning into discomfort, learning and inspiring actions that will benefit those working in our industry, their communities and all peripheral sectors.
